SUPERCARS champion Scott McLaughlin has opened up about life inside Darwin quarantine, revealing he’s still not “exactly sure” whether he will be allowed to leave in time for next weekend’s Darwin Triple Crown.

The Shell V-Power racing team’s star is among a group of more than 40 Supercars drivers, crew members and officials who went into mandatory quarantine at the H Hotel on Smith St on Wednesday night.

Scott McLaughlin showed off how he had still been training in the confinement of his hotel room in a video on Twitter on Thursday.

“This is my world for the next seven days at least, (I’m) not exactly sure what’s going to go on,” he said.

“(Coronavirus) is very serious issue at the moment, we’re all in this pandemic together and we’re trying to keep the Northern Territory safe.

“I fully understand what the government’s putting forward.

“At the end of the day I live in a hotspot in Brisbane and they classed it as a hotspot.

“Thankfully all my COVID tests have come back negative but you know we just want to make sure we do the right thing by the public so we get back racing again.

“This is what we gotta do.

“I’m just going to kick back, do what I can and see what happens.”

NT Major Events chief executive Tim Watsford said they were sent to the hotel because the Howard Springs facility was already “quite full”.

An NT Health spokeswoman said the group would only need to be in hotel quarantine in Darwin until next Friday because the crews had already been living in isolation and tested regularly in Queensland for a week (since July 31).
