TERRITORY tourist attractions continue to reopen, with Friday’s Stage 3 easing of restrictions seeing a number of local institutes open their doors, including the iconic Royal Flying Doctor Service tourist facility.

TERRITORY tourist attractions continue to reopen, with Friday’s Stage 3 easing of restrictions seeing a number of local institutes open their doors.

One of the NT’s – and Australia’s – most iconic attractions, the Royal Flying Doctor Service will reopen its tourist facility on Friday but RFDS acting operations manager Sam Bennett said it was up to locals to support tourism and ensure iconic attractions survived an uncertain future.

“I’m Territory born and bred. It’s been really difficult to see the hospitality sector suffer through this,” she said.

“I’m hopeful locals will get behind their local pub or tourist attraction and support each other.”

With 93 years of history, the attraction highlights a long history of Australian primary health care hospital transfers and clinics.

But Ms Bennett said they would cater for locals.

“RFDS will be much more focused on the educational side of things, we’re always described as ‘education by self’ because we use technology to tell our story so we’ll be a lot more focused on what you take away from your experience,” she said.

“We’ll be telling more local stories, if we grow anything it will be those patient experiences and the bombing of Darwin hub which appeals to the military interest within the community.

“I think we all have to learn how to do things differently, looking at our market and the demographic and tailoring our products to meet that demand.”
