INDIGENOUS rangers at the Fish River Station have secured the future of a vital carbon abatement program by stopping an out-of-control wildfire from spreading on to their property.

Indigenous ranger Ryan Daly said a combined 500 hours were put in by rangers recently to stop the blaze spreading into the environmentally sensitive station.
“The size of the fire made us pretty nervous,” he said.
Fish River Station was Australia’s first Indigenous project to be approved under the federal government’s Carbon Farming Initiative.
