Police are hunting for a man who sent threatening, handwritten letters to a man whose two beloved dogs were allegedly poisoned to death.

Hunt is on for man who threatened dogs

Police are hunting for a man seen delivering threatening letters at night before the recipient found his beloved dogs poisoned to death.

Soon after receiving the “threatening” letters, which complained about the dog’s barking, the Queensland man returned home to find one of his Jack Russells was unwell. One died soon after, and the other was discovered dead in the morning.

Residents of the home on Wheeler Driver in Glenella, Mackay, in Queensland, had recently received two “threatening letters” that had been hand delivered to the home while they were away, according to Queensland Police.

“The letters were abusive and threatening in nature and linked to the barking of two dogs which resided at the home — two Jack Russell terriers, a girl named ‘Jackie’ and a boy called ‘Lucky’,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

On September 21, after 5pm, the residents returned home and found Jackie in an “agitated state”, according to police.

Sadly, their beloved pet died within 15 minutes. Lucky was found the next day in their yard, also deceased.

The dogs are now undergoing autopsies to determine how they died.

It is an offence to commit a deliberate act of cruelty against an animal, with a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment or a $252,300 fine in Queensland, under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001.

It’s also an offence to bait animals or feed them harmful substances. Offenders face a $37,845 fine or one year in jail.

Police have released CCTV vision of a man delivering a letter to the letterbox at Glenella Drive.

Anyone who recognises the man, or with knowledge of the threats to the owners or the dogs, is urged to contact police.

Queensland Police are continuing their investigators with the assistance of the RSPCA.
