POLICE had already been on the lookout for a car which later rolled, killing its driver, after it had earlier stopped in the middle of the Stuart Highway and nearly caused an accident

POLICE had alrady been on the lookout for a car which later rolled in Noonamah, killing its driver, after it had earlier stopped in the middle of the Stuart Highway and nearly caused an accident.

NT detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said police were notified that a car nearly ploughed into the 33-year-old woman’s light blue 2004 model Toyota Corolla hatchback near Lake Bennett at 9.45pm on Sunday.

About an hour later, police found the wreckage of the vehicle 40km away near the Elizabeth Valley Rd intersection.

“The vehicle was reportedly parked on the inbound lane and another motorist heading southbound has glanced or clipped that car,” he said.

“NT Police were on patrol and returning to Darwin when they observed the crashed vehicle, in Noonamah just prior to the Elizabeth Valley Rd.

“They stopped and at the time she was alive, they’ve called in for medical services to attend and despite all their attmetps to save her life, unfortunately tragically she died soon after being extricated from the vehicle.

“Police did have an interaction with her earlier in the afternoon so we’re trying to work out exactly what’s transpired from that time.”

Major crash officers are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances of the rollover.

It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
