THE family of a 79-year-old woman says she was left “paralysed with fear” after a pair of youths allegedly targeted her home by throwing rocks and smashing windows.

NT Police said the elderly woman was left traumatised after the two youths threw rocks and caused significant damage at her home and car on Nelson Terrace in Alice Springs just before 6am on Saturday.

Assistant Commissioner Narelle Beer said she was disgusted by the behaviour of the youths.

“At a time when we’re pleading for people to stay safe in their own homes, the conduct of these individuals to traumatise a vulnerable person is a despicable act,” she said.

Pictures of the 79-year-old’s woman’s trashed home have been posted by a frustrated family member on Facebook.

“This is my mother’s home,” the post said.

“Youths jumped her fence and threw rocks at her windows continuously destroying every window.

“She was paralysed with fear and couldn’t use her phone to call for help. Thankfully her wonderful neighbours heard the noise and interrupted the attack.

“I have no words for this, am just heartbroken that my 79-year-old mother has had to go through this.”

Police are also appealing for public assistance of two other homes on Nelson Terrace and a business in Diarama Village that were unlawfully entered and significantly damaged between the hours of 5:20am and 7am on Saturday.

Police are seeking public assistance to help identify two youth who they wish to speak to in relation to these incidents.

They two young males are described as being of Indigenous appearance, aged 15 to 16 years old with slim builds and at the time one of them was wearing a red bucket hat and a black singlet with white writing and the other was wearing a green khaki top and blue shorts.

Police were appealing to anyone who witnessed the youth or has information which would assist with identifying them, to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
