ITALIAN chef Stefano Mauro loves pizza and a bit of sausage but is scarred by Gold Coasters’ passion for pineapple.
To mark the launch of Jamie Oliver’s cookbook, 7 Ways, Mauro has been whipping up authentic “Speedy Sausage Pizza and Pasta” at Jamie Oliver’s Pizzeria at Broadbeach for the past month.
“I love bringing a bit of Europe and my home, Torino, Italy, to the Coast. I love embracing European ingredients and like peppers, beautiful pork and fennel sausage and cheeses,” said the 34-year-old head chef, who has lived in Australia since 2014.
“Gold Coast foodies love pineapple on pizza and I don’t understand why. As an Italian, I am not a fan at all but but apricot, fig, pear and grapes are OK.”
Hallmark Group Restaurants director Sean Heanen said Gold Coasters were the first and only in Australia to taste test new recipes from famed British chef Oliver, and it has been a crowd favourite.
