Lotto: Tips and tricks that could win you millions

The numbers have dropped in last Thursday night’s mega $100 million lotto prize, and there are three new millionaires in Australia.

The winning numbers in Draw Number 1389 were 9, 26, 4, 23, 22, 6, 24. The Powerball number was 18.

Prize data from the Lott reveal there are three first division winners who will each receive $33,333,333.34. Two of the winners are from NSW/ACT.

There were 33 winners in division two, who will each receive $47,444.20, and 187 third division winners who will each receive $5116.55.

In the division nine there were 2,099,107 winners who each receive $10.90.

This was just the first of two of the biggest lotto jackpots in history up for grabs this week.

Every second adult Australian was expected to have a ticket into Thursday’s Powerball, while one in three are expected to have a ticket into Saturday’s Megadraw.

A cumulative $140m will be drawn in the two lotto pools — some of the biggest prizemoney in history.

Thursday night’s Powerball draw, which has jackpotted to $100m just in time for New Year’s Eve, is the third largest lottery jackpot this year and the fifth in Powerball’s history.

“With the Powerball juggernaut on the rise once again, we’re ready to crown some more multi-millionaires before we dive into 2023,” Matt Hart, of The Lott, said.

“If just one person takes home Thursday’s $100 million jackpot, they’ll immediately become the nation’s second-biggest lottery winner ever.”

More than 3000 tickets are expected to be sold each minute, during peak times, for Saturday’s Megadraw, which is worth $40m.

Last year’s New Year’s Eve Megadraw saw 17 division one winning entries share the jackpot, with each pocketing just over $2 million in prize money.

So far this year, there have been 19 division one Powerball winners who have collectively pocketed $664m in prize money.

“New South Wales players have enjoyed a good run in 2022 – scoring 11 of the 19 Powerball division one wins to date – but anything could happen on Thursday,” Mr Hart said.

There have been 471 division one winning entries across all lotto games – which resulted in more than $1.4 billion in division one prize money.

Victorians were the most successful, with 142 division one wins from January to November. But New South Wales residents scored the biggest prize money worth $529 million.

A Coffs Harbour, NSW, man took home the biggest individual win – $63 million Powerball in February.

Lotto players are encouraged to register their entry to a player card or online account, so the prize is secure and The Lott can contact you should have the winning ticket.

TIPS TO INCREASE ODDS

POWERBALL

Aussies may have a better chance at success by choosing their numbers.

The most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn are 16 and 14.

From the main barrel, the most drawn are 17, 9, 2 and 25. Yet 33, 31, 34 and 15 are barely seen as the least frequently drawn.

Computer-generated tickets can lead to success, with almost three quarters of Powerball division one winning entries from QuickPicks.

Aussies may like to try their chances with a PowerHit entry, which are special Powerball tickets which guarantee the magic Powerball number needed.

Almost a third (31.5 per cent) of Powerball division one wins were with a PowerHit entry.

SATURDAY LOTTO

The Lott has revealed the most frequently drawn numbers for Lotto for the past 35 years have been 1, 11, 6, 22 and 40.

Meanwhile the least drawn were 44, 30, 14, 27 and 28.
