$100M POWERBALL: THE ONE NUMBER YOU NEED TO PICK

Scooping Australia's second biggest lottery jackpot this year could come down to one number.

With about half of the country expected to have an entry into Thursday’s $100m Powerball draw, The Lottery Corporation has unveiled the most – and least – drawn numbers.

The most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn are 18, 16 and 14.

As for the numbers from the main barrel, the most frequently drawn are 17, 9, 2 and 25, where as the numbers 33, 31, 34 and 6 are considered cold because they are the least frequently drawn.

This Thursday’s Powerball jackpot is $100m, the second biggest prize pool of Australian lotto this year.

For those who prefer to take a punt with the computer-generated tickets, two-third of this year’s Powerball division one winning entries have been QuickPicks.

More than a quarter (26.6 per cent) of the division one wins were from PowerHit entries, which are special Powerball tickets that guarantees the magic Powerball number you need to win division one.

For some punters, the recipe to success is looking at lotto hot spots and where previous winning tickets were purchased.

In the 2022 financial year, Frankston in Melbourne’s south east, sold four division one winning entries. Meanwhile, Port Macquarie in NSW’s Mid North Coast sold three division on tickets in the same period.

Powerball players have been more successful this year than the previous three years, Lotto Corp reports.

There have been 15 division one wins so far this year, with a collective prize pool of $454m.

Thursday’s prize pool is the biggest Australian lotto jackpot since February this year.

The last time $100m Powerball was up for grabs, in September 2019, the peak of ticket sales happened in the final minutes before the draw closed.

Almost 8000 tickets were sold at 7.22pm – just eight minutes before the Powerball draw got under way.
