Amelia King’s Tan Bomb takes off in Australian market

A Gold Coast woman has turned her love of fake tan into a thriving business after inventing an ingenious solution to a common problem, with her Aussie-first product selling out just three weeks after its launch. Here’s why it’s so popular.

How to get the perfect summer beauty look in less than six minutes

AMELIA King is a self confessed fake tan lover so much so she’s invented a product and started a booming business.

“I have been a huge fake fanner. Basically all my life,” the 26-year-old from Bundall said.

“Since I was about 14 or 15, I’ve been trying to find a (tan eraser) that actually works.

“I’m someone who has extremely dry skin and I was finding it would take me hours to get my old tan off by scrubbing in the shower.”

Eventually Ms King, who worked in the makeup industry, decided to create her own business with friend Candace Cronin.

She says she spent two years perfecting purple Tan Bomb, which is said to simply wash off the tacky tan after a 10-minute soak.

“It’s full of almond oil and Epsom salts so it’s really nourishing,” Ms King said.

“I started giving it to my friends and family and it took off.”

The plan was to launch Tan Bomb last year but it was delayed due to waiting for a patent.

Instead the product, which is claimed to be an Australian first, was launched in late July.

“It was so nerve-racking launching it because we didn’t have something to compare it to,” she said.

“We sold out of our first thousand (tan bombs) in three weeks.

“The other day we had somebody order 15 tan bombs from the website, which is insane. I was blown away. It was a $300 order.”

Tan Bomb is only available in Australia but Ms King says they’ve had a lot of interest from America and are planning to launch international orders.

She said they are working to get it in major retailers within Australia.
