A VACANT block of land backing on to one of the Gold Coast’s best-known golf courses will be transformed into a giant aged-care facility.
The 9212sq m site on Hope Island’s Santa Monica Boulevard has been earmarked for a 112-bedroom facility by healthcare giant Japara.

The plans, filed with council on Monday, show the two-storey complex, which banks on to The Pines golf course, will have:
* 112 bedrooms including 17 dementia care bedrooms.
* Specialist in-house services including a cinema, library, gym, shop, multi-function lounge and cafe.
* 44 premium units with kitchenettes and private lounges.

The developer held a pre-lodgement meeting with council in April and received in-principal support from planning staff.
The project is one of several large-scale retirement and care facilities planned for the city’s north. Another is a giant waterfront five-tower development with room for nearly 1000 people at the former Hope Island Village Square marketplace.
