A FUNDRAISING page for the family of a father and his two-year-old daughter killed in a horror crash in Kingston raised nearly $9000 in its first 12 hours as more details of their heartbreak emerged.
The GoFundMe page started on Saturday revealed that the tragedy on August 13 had left the Huntingfield man’s wife and girl’s mother behind with a newborn baby to raise.
The family’s identity has been kept private.
“I am totally heartbroken for the loss of these two beautiful souls and want to show this beautiful mum that so many people care for her and her little baby,” page organiser Eleesha Casey wrote.
“I want us all to come together and give this family as much support as we can.”
The page has a $10,000 target. More than half was raised in the first few hours.
One woman who donated wrote: “Thoughts from my family to you.
“We don’t know you, but hope this small amount helps towards your future.”
FUNDRAISER FOR FAMILY OF FATHER AND ‘LITTLE ANGEL’
Ms Casey, who had helped care for the “beautiful little girl”, said she hoped the community would go above and beyond to help the family.
“From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank each and every one of you for the support that has been shown,” she said.
“We are so grateful for the support of so many people.
“It’s wonderful what we can all do together to help those around us.”
TRIBUTES AFTER TASSIE DAD, DAUGHTER DIE IN CAR CRASH
Last week, flowers and a small pink unicorn were attached to the guard rail on Algona Road, near where the 42-year-old man and his daughter lost their lives.
The pair were in a Lexus sedan when, about 900m south of the Fork in the Road roundabout at Kingston, they collided head-on with a bus.
The driver of the white 1998 Hino passenger bus, a 68-year-old-woman from Blackmans Bay, was the sole occupant and was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Ms Casey said she started the fundraising page after many people asked how they could help.
“The family have had many meals delivered and at this stage those will keep them going for some time,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“The support people have shown is wonderful, but there will come a time that life will ease back to somewhat normality for most and that is when the family will need the help.
“As many of you may know or could imagine, raising a child alone is hard enough, let alone the financial side of it also.
“So this is where this fundraiser will hopefully help this beautiful family.”
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
