Toongabbie man to face court over alleged fake kidnapping

A Toongabbie man will front court today after allegedly faking his own kidnapping. Police managed to find the man unharmed and sitting at a cafe just hours after he claimed to be kidnapped.

A man will face court today after he allegedly faked his own kidnapping yesterday morning.

The Toongabbie man, aged 31, is accused by NSW Police of attempting to extort money out of people he knew while also falsely claiming to be the victim of kidnapping and assault.

Police first heard about the incident around 5am on Tuesday after receiving reports a man had been kidnapped and assaulted.

This triggered a large police operation involving local police from Camden, Parramatta and St George as well as members from State Crime Command.

It was short lived, with officers finding the man at a cafe in Brighton Le Sands about 11.50am on Tuesday.

He was not injured and there was no risk of harm.

Police arrested the man as well two other men, aged 28 and 27, and a woman, aged 24.

The group were taken to St George Police Station for questioning.

The 31-year-old was charged with giving false information regarding a person in danger, false representation resulting in police investigation, use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate, intend fear physical etc harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today.

The two other men and woman were released without being charged.
