Investigation launched into possible stolen car set on fire

Just after 1am Newtown residents woke to the sound of a loud bang after a car burst into flames on Eardley Street, Toowoomba.

Police and fire crews rushed to the blaze on the short suburban street on Saturday morning, January 21.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers were looking into whether or not the Kia Sorento was stolen and deliberately set alight.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said the SUV was ablaze when a crew arrived at the scene, and it was quickly extinguished.
