A teenage boy has been charged over his role in a suburban crime spree, including the alleged break and enter of one home where he and his accomplices left only with a can of coke.
A group of people were captured on CCTV allegedly trying to break into a number of homes in the Coorparoo, Carina and Camp Hill area between April 21 and 22 armed with knives.
Camp Hill resident Daniel Krishna was asleep at his parents’ home when the group attempted to break in just before dawn, but they didn’t leave with much.
“We didn’t hear them, but we’re surprised to see this occurred so close to sunrise,” Mr Krishna said.
“The offenders had access to Bluetooth speakers, alcohol and other items but chose to only steal a can of coke.”
Despite targeting numerous properties, the group made off with just a pair of car keys, a few e-scooters, small amounts of cash and the drink.
Mr Krishna said while it was bizarre to see the alleged burglars make off with just a Coke, it was still confronting for him and his family.
“We have had several cars stolen in multiple different break and enters over the last couple of years. All by youth offenders,” Mr Krishna said.
“It makes us feel unsafe in our neighbourhood and home.”
A number of homes were targeted during the alleged spree, with residents recording break-ins along Beresford Tce as well as Errey, Burn and Faraday streets.
Damien Pearce said his home was targeted on April 22.
was one of the unlucky homeowners targeted on Tuesday morning.
“I saw the gate wedged open in the morning so I checked the cameras. That’s when the shock of the intruder video was real,” Mr Price said.
“For the kid to be carrying a knife was the very scary part.
Mr Price said after repeated break and enter attempts he feared for his children’s safety.
“I now double check the doors windows and locks. I worry about my teenage kids,” Mr Price said.
“I’ve had to discuss with them what to do if they are confronted by a successful intruder
“I leave my valuables on the kitchen bench now. Keys are visible. I can’t afford to be attacked over cash or car keys.”
Police arrested the 13-year-old Cherbourg boy at Crestmead on Friday about 9pm.
The boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, faced Brisbane Children’s Court on Saturday and was granted bail on about 20 offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and break and enter charges.
