A North Stradbroke Island cafe, bar and online retailer has been ordered into liquidation, after a South Australian winery applied to wind it up.

Wine and cheese bar St Stradbroke had sold itself as a vendor for curated, independent and small-batch Australian wines, hosting tastings with ocean views.

During the day, it operated as a coffee shop, before converting into a bar at night.

The business had also launched a subscription box earlier this year, which delivered a selection of wines to its customers.

The NSW Supreme Court appointed a liquidator to St Stradbroke on Monday, after wine producer Coates Wines applied to wind up the business in September.

St Stradbroke is run by owners Larissa and Andrew Morrison.

Mr Morrison told News Corp Australia they could not comment because the matter was before the courts but the business continued to operate.

Ms Morrison is listed as the company’s sole director while Mr Morrison is a sommelier.

The company was registered in 2022.

St Stradbroke had participated in community events like the recent Straddie Arts Trail by hosting a photography exhibit.

Earlier this year, the Premier Foodservice Association Australia (FSAA) and Restaurant and Catering Australia (R&CA) bodies told the federal government the hospitality sector was struggling.

John Hart, chair of policy at FSAA and national president of R&CA said two thirds of hospitality businesses which operated in 2020 were no longer trading.

“We now have half the number of venues we had five years ago,” he said in Parliament House in July.

“This is not a slowdown. This is a structural collapse.”
