A controversial Gold Coast businessman known for his TikTok antics has been fined after he was caught with a small amount of cocaine in his pocket.

Ex Creso Pharma director Dr James Anthony Ellingford was also granted bail after spending about two months on remand for a number of serious charges.

Ellingford, 57, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing cocaine and other charges.

He had been found with a small amount of the drug in Southport on January 4 this year.

Magistrate Louisa Pink fined him $900.

Ellingford has been in custody since early January, when he was denied bail.

On Friday, after being sentenced for cocaine possession, Ellingford once again applied for bail.

Ellingford’s solicitor Dan Rawlings, of Rawlings Criminal Law, said the businessman, who had no criminal history, had spent 57 days in custody where he was sharing a single cell and sleeping on a mattress on the floor.

“Two months my client has had in jail has been a phenomenal wake up call for him,” he said.

“There is absolutely no way he is going to breach the bail conditions.”

Mr Rawlings said Ellingford had suffered an “extraordinary fall from grace”.

Magistrate Louisa Pink on Friday granted bail to Ellingford with conditions including he not contact any witnesses and he reside in his Runaway Bay home.

The matters will return to court in the coming weeks.

Ellingford’s troubles began in November last year when he was charged with stalking and misuse of Triple 0.

He was granted bail for those offences in November.

Ellingford and his ex-partner amassed a huge TikTok following after posting videos about their relationship.

He was director of the medical marijuana company Creso Pharma before he lost his job at the end of last year, reportedly due to the videos.
