Police have charged eight people after a drug sting operation on the Gold Coast.

Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley said detectives from the Gold Coast Major and Organised Crime Squad had closed a drug operation which had allegedly been active since April last year.

Mr Tuffley said officers had executed a number of search warrants across the Gold Coast and Logan including at Coomera Waters, Varsity Lakes, Upper Coomera and Daisy Hill.

Police allege they found and seized a number of items including seven firearms, $30,000 in cash and a wide range of illicit drugs including cocaine, amphetamine and MDMA.

Officers charged eight people with 58 offences including a 41-year-old Coomera Waters man, a 36-year-old Coomera Waters man, a 48-year-old Coomera Waters man, a 42-year-old Robina man, a 38-year-old Upper Coomera man and a 22-year-old Pimpama man.

“This is the outcome of a long and protracted investigation involving a number of units,” Mr Tuffley said.

“There are drugs in every major jurisdiction but the Gold Coast being a party precinct, (drugs) come with the territory.

“Police are actively conducting these investigations and people who engage in this and distribute illicit drugs should be worried.

“We don’t tolerate it.”

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Dan Purdie praised the officers involved in the operation.

“Consuming, producing, trafficking, and possessing illicit drugs causes serious harm to society, and our frontline police work tirelessly to disrupt these types of activities,” he said.

“These arrests and drug seizures will have a substantial impact on the illicit drug market not only in Logan and the Gold Coast, but across the entire state.”

Acting detective inspector Chad Davis from Organised Crime Gangs Group said Operation Whiskey Ghost said illicit drugs have no place within the community, warning individuals involved in the illegal trade they would be targeted by police.

“If any member of the community has any information at all in relation to the use, supply or trafficking of illicit drugs in the community, I encourage them to report the matter to police,” he said.

“It doesn’t matter how small or insignificant you believe the information to be, that information may be the piece of the puzzle police need to identify and dismantle a drug offending syndicate.”
