Mysterious UFO captured in sky above Upper Coomera on the Gold Coast

Is it a UFO, a portal, a black hole – or something far more mundane? A local man is looking for answers after capturing images of a mysterious object in the sky above the Gold Coast. See the extraordinary pictures and video.

The truth is out there. But so far it has eluded Upper Coomera man Jarod Crook, and everybody he has shown pictures he took of a mysterious object floating in the sky above the northern Gold Coast suburb.

Mr Crook said he took the photos after being perplexed by a bright light he saw while walking along Old Coach Rd on the evening of Friday July 7.

“I was walking to the pub and I just looked up,” Mr Crook said. “I was walking on Old Coach Rd and there was no stars in the sky at all and then there was just this bright light sitting up in the sky and I just took a picture of it.”

The 47-year-old said he was astonished when he saw the detail of what he had captured.

“It just looked like a star, but a very, very bright one. And the reason why I took a picture of it was because there were no other stars in the sky,” he said.

“... And then when we take the picture that comes out, that circle with the three (rings) looks like the Death Star.

“And when you zoom in you see those dots on the side, whatever the hell that is.

“... I don’t know what it is. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve camped all my life but I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Mr Crook said that when he reached Coomera Tavern and told fellow patrons about the puzzling sight they went outside to have a look and were similarly mystified.

“I was walking down to the pub and I thought that’s a bit weird and then I went into the pub to get a beer and I told a couple of people in there, come and have a look at this,” he said.

“There were sceptics there and they said, ‘bulls***, it’s probably a weather balloon’. And they all came out and they’ve gone, ‘what the hell’s that’? I said, I don’t know what it is either, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mr Crook said the object did not look like a weather balloon and could not have been the moon, which was in another part of the sky that evening.

He said he saw it again, sitting lower in the sky, two days later, but had not spotted it since.

It is not the first time unexplained objects have been seen in the sky above the Gold Coast, with 23 sightings recorded in the decade up until 2019, however researchers said there had been fewer sightings in the past four years.
