A WOMAN who lost her dad in a motorcycle crash on Father’s Day is on a desperate mission to return home to Australia so he can finally be laid to rest.

Some family members were travelling behind 52-year-old Shane Diedrichs when he lost control of his motorbike before crashing into a garage and brick wall of a residence on Columbus Dr, Hollywell on September 5.

The Hollywell father died at the scene.

His daughter Micaela lives in New Zealand and has been unable to get a flight back to Queensland since the crash due to Covid restrictions and border closures.

Shane’s other daughter Emma Diedrichs told the Bulletin she couldn’t bring herself to hold her Dad’s funeral without her sister there.

“We have tried every single avenue in past three weeks to get her here – we have tried everything,” Emma said.

“We got her a ticket on a flight that was booked (on Monday) but it was cancelled.

“Our next option is a charter flight which is very expensive.”

Emma has started an online fundraiser to pay for a chartered flight from New Zealand to Queensland for her sister, which will cost more than $8000 on top of hotel quarantine.

“With the costs of Dad’s funeral along with many other expenses at this time, we cannot afford to get her on this last resort flight,” Emma said.

“We miss our Dad so much and all we want is Micaela here so we can lay Dad to rest and give him the amazing service he deserves.

“He was a legend of a man and was loved and adored by many.”

Shane’s sister-in-law Cathy Diedrichs said her family was struggling to recover after watching the motorbike crash unfold.

“We just can’t move on from it,” she said.

“He was a sweetheart – everybody liked Shane.

“Emma and Micaela were Shane’s world.”
