A swimmer has been taken to hospital after becoming trapped in a rip at a popular Gold Coast beach, resulting in a dramatic rescue.

The man, aged in his 70s, found himself in trouble while swimming at Burleigh Heads.

Paramedics were called to the scene at Fourth Avenue about 10.20am Sunday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said on-duty lifeguards rescued the man.

He was taken to Robina Hospital in a stable condition as a precaution.

THE family of a motorbike rider who died in crash in Hollywell on Sunday night saw the tragedy unfold, it is understood.

The family were travelling behind the 52-year-old Hollywell man when he lost control of his motorbike before crashing into a garage and brick wall of a residence on Columbus Dr about 9.20pm.

The incident has prompted calls from Hollywell residents for Gold Coast City Council to improve safety in the area after multiple crashes and near misses.

Division 4 Councillor Cameron Caldwell said the city would consider the requests.

“Following Sunday night’s incident, I have requested a safety audit of the intersection to identify any improvements that can be made,” Cr Caldwell said.

A MOTORBIKE rider has died after he lost control and crashed into the brick wall of a home on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast police were called to the fatal crash on Columbus Dr at Hollywell about 9.20pm on Sunday.

The 52-year-old Hollywell man “lost control of his motorbike while travelling west” before he “crashed into a garage and brick wall of a residence”, a spokeswoman said.

The man died at the scene of the incident on Sunday night.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics, including the High Acuity Response Unit, was called to the crash and assessed the rider, who was in a critical condition.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) also responded after the crash at Hollywell.

Investigations by the Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit were ongoing on Monday morning.
