The Gold Coast has been smashed with over a months worth of rain as roads remain closed due to flash flooding.
The Gold Coast was hit with a large downpour overnight on Thursday which has caused flash flooding, closing multiple roads across the city.
Meteorologist Angus Hines said the Gold Coast had received a significant amount of rain overnight, accumulating 148mm in Tugun and 144mm in Coolangatta.
Palm Beach recorded 133mm of rain while other parts of the Gold Coast recorded 70mm of rain up to 5am.
Mr Hines said that while the rain was easing, the downpour would continue throughout Friday.
He said the city could expect up to another 50mm on Friday.
Multiple Gold Coast residents said the M1 between Varsity Lakes and Tugun was “terrible” at around 3.30am.
“We were aquaplaning all over the place,” Eric Baker said.
As of 6.30am on Friday, multiple Gold Coast roads were flooded including, Stewart Rd in Currumbin Waters, Alberta Park Rd in Luscombe and Old Coach Rd in Reedy Creek.
“Anyone wanting to use Old Coach Rd, it is pretty far under and Connection Rd near man on the bike is also under,” Angela Van Hood Jackson said on Facebook.
“For school runs via out valley way might want to rethink it. Lots of rain fell out here in the Valley last night.”
Currumbin resident Quintin Bennett shared a video of flash flooding in Currumbin and Currumbin Waters on Friday morning.
“Pretty impressive amount of rain in a short period of time,” he said.
“Stay safe out there.”
Mr Hines said the wet weather was expected to clear by Friday night, “paying the way for a pleasant weekend”.
He said the Gold Coast can expect temperatures of up to 29 degrees over the weekend.
