Gold Coast police have identified the body of a woman who was found washed up on a beach.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Gold Coast Police were called to The Spit at Main Beach around 9am on Tuesday.
An ambulance spokeswoman said a woman was declared dead at the scene.
On Tuesday afternoon, police released images of the woman’s belongings in an appeal to identify her.
The woman was described as Asian in appearance, believed to be around 50-60 years old with short dark hair.
She was wearing a red, black and pink one-piece swimsuit.
On Wednesday morning, police confirmed they had identified the body of the woman.
A Gold Coast Police spokesman said initial investigations suggested the woman had been dead for several hours.
The spokesman confirmed the body was found after being washed up on the beach and was not rescued from the water.
He said police patrolled the area afterwards to confirm there was no one else in the water.
The spokesman said the woman’s death was not being treated as suspicious but investigations were ongoing.
