A man has been pulled from a ball of flames after a high-speed crash on the Gold Coast.

A man has been pulled from a ball of flames after a high-speed crash on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called after a high-speed traffic crash on Gooding Dr in Merrimac at around 12.35am on Tuesday.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said it was understood a black Holden Astra was driving at speed near the roundabout of Nerang Broadbeach Rd when it lost control and smashed into a power pole.

The car immediately burst into flames upon impact and the 28-year-old driver was rescued from the car by a bystander.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and assessed the Surfers Paradise man who had a laceration on his face.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
