A GOLD Coast duo allegedly defrauded more than $68,000 from Kmart and Bunnings stores across southeast Queensland in just a matter of months.

Dillan Thomas Pickles and Tayla Caitlin Cooper, of Varsity Lakes, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court this week faced with 18 counts of fraud and were granted bail.

It is alleged the pair defrauded the stores in Nerang, Robina, Manly, Oxenford, Pimpama, Broadbeach and Newstead between July and September this year.

The court was told the pair allegedly defrauded about $68,000.

Police say between July and August the pair attended several hardware businesses where they allegedly filled a trolley with items matching an old receipt and then returned them for a refund at the service desk.

The pair was arrested after they were allegedly caught speeding in a car along M1 southbound at Ormeau around 8.30pm on September 19. Police noticed they were wanted for questioning in connection to “numerous fraud offences”.

The court was told Cooper was on bail for fraud charges when some of the alleged incidents occurred.

Defence lawyer Sarah Jowitt, of Legal Aid, said the 26-year-old was willing to comply with conditions she not contact Pickles and she not go to a Bunnings or Kmart store.

She said Cooper was living in a granny flat in Mermaid Waters presently.

Magistrate Kay Philipson granted bail on the conditions that Cooper regularly report to police, not go within 100m of a Bunnings or Kmart and have no contact with Pickles.

The matter was adjourned to October 14.

Magistrate Gary Finger granted Pickles bail in a separate court proceeding.

Pickles will return to court on October 19.
