Lawyer rescues owl outside courthouse

CRIMINAL lawyer Chris Hannay is used to deploying his defence skills inside courtrooms but he had to put that expertise to protect a helpless owl.

The Hannay Lawyers director spotted the barn owl in distress outside the Southport Courthouse just before 8am on Tuesday and came to the cute creature’s rescue.

“It was being harassed by some rough house Southport black crows,” Mr Hannay said.

“They caused it to fall from the sky and knocked itself out.”

The veteran lawyer then jumped into action, giving the bird a quick triage and some first aid.

“Mouth to mouth was not required,” he said.

The adorable owl was then given some “love and comfort” at a nearby coffee shop while arrangements were made to take the bird to a nearby veterinarian.

“I believe a successful rescue was accomplished,” he said.

“All feathers are in tact and breathing new life.”

The owl is expected to make a full recovery.
