A man who allegedly prompted a siege after refusing to speak to police has been taken to hospital.

Police shut Marbella Drive, Benowa about 2pm on Tuesday after they tried to speak with the 33-year-old man, who was wanted on a return-to-prison warrant.

It will be alleged he refused to leave the home and police initially believed he was armed.

Police are yet to find a weapon.

The man was taken into custody about 4.30pm.

Gold Coast police district duty officer Senior Sergeant Robert Dusha said police no longer believed the man was armed by the end of the incident.

“At this point in time, we are yet to locate any weapon,” he said.

Sen Sgt Dusha said police had an early indication the man was armed with a .22 calibre pistol.

He said police had been looking for the man for about a day and a half.

At the end of the siege, the man was placed on a stretcher before being put into the back of an ambulance and taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Sen Sgt Dusha said the man did not live in the home and it was not yet clear whether he knew the residents.

“We had a peaceful outcome ... we negotiated our way through a potentially volatile situation,” he said.

Sen Sgt Dusha said the man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Heavily armed police were spotted walking through the street and waiting outside the home while negotiations took place throughout the afternoon.

Marbella Drive was closed at Tanya Crt during the incident.
