The Gold Coast Bulletin Women of the Year awards by Harvey Norman for 2023 have attracted hundreds of impressive contenders.

Now the 27 finalists have been chosen - three each across nine categories - all vying for the ultimate title.

The winner of each category, as chosen by a panel of judges, will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at The Star Gold Coast on September 16.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out on Monday when voting opens for the People’s Choice award.

The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite from the 27 finalists before the poll closes on September 1.

The Gold Coast Mayoress Charity Foundation’s annual ball simply would not happen without Tracey Woodbry’s countless hours of volunteer work liaising with its many worthy causes and attendees. More than $2 million have been raised for charities on the night - considered one of the Gold Coast social events of the year. She is also a familiar face when the Gold Coast 500 is on as the general manager - corporate experiences Supercars. Her CV includes the world’s largest sports talent agency IMG, surfwear giant Billabong and top accommodation providers Ramada and Sheraton.

The Journey 2 Learn autism charity founder on the Gold Coast started it after the birth of her fourth child who was diagnosed with autism level 3 aged just over two. When he turned six her only option was to send him to a special school or home school him - but that didn’t match her aspirations. She believed he should attend a mainstream school - and her support structure Journey 2 Learn was formed. She works at it full time for no financial reward, working at night as a corporate travel agent. She hopes the model will help other families in the same situation.

The head of fundraising for the National Trust of Australia and Currumbin Wildlife Hospital separately founded her influential and popular Women of Influence group 15 years ago. The mother of two’s tireless fundraising role supports worthy causes such as the koala vaccine project and rebuilding the wildlife hospital. Her Women of Influence not-for-profit gives motivated and successful businesswoman a forum to network and learn, attracting up to 450 at regular events, and fundraising for Arcadia College, YHES House and OHANA FOR YOUTH.

Oiriginally from Seattle, but in Australia for 30-plus years, she was a Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Technical and Scientific and Advisory committee member for nine years, has published 80-plus scholarly outputs, co-edited two books dand is described as an “outstanding leader” in transformation education and “true catalyst for tranformative learning”.

The Enriching Lives Foundation founder’s charity supports underprivileged children to stay in school, sponsoring kids who have lost a parent, are in financial distress or found themselves homeless. It pays for public schooling costs such as uniforms, camp costs, books and other essentials. Described as an “authentic, big-hearted woman who has a determination to make a difference”. An Enriching Lives race day in June raised $13,000 whilst pencil in a fundraising gala for October 21.
