Two people have been flown to hospital after a serious crash in Balliang on Thursday, with one man sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Police said a Hyundai sedan was travelling along Bacchus Marsh Rd when it collided with a Suzuki hatchback about 9am.
CFA and SES crews worked to free a person who was trapped inside one of the vehicles.
The driver of the hatchback, a 32-year-old Tarneit man, sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to the Alfred hospital in Melbourne.
The driver of the Hyundai sedan, a 45-year-old woman from Strathtulloh, north west of Melbourne, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Geelong hospital.
Advanced life support and intensive care paramedics responded to the crash.
Orange tarp was used to cover various parts of both vehicles, which were severely damaged in the collision.
Metal and debris from the crash littered the road.
One of the vehicles was bearing yellow New South Wales number plates.
Bacchus Marsh Rd was closed in both directions near the scene on Thursday afternoon.
The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
