Geelong forward Shaun Mannagh and project ruckman Mitch Edwards extend stay at Cats

Geelong forward Shaun Mannagh and project ruckman Mitch Edwards are the latest Cats to re-sign with the club..

Mannagh, 27, has signed a one-year extension while Edwards will remain at the club until the end of 2027.

Geelong picked the pair within five selections in the second round of the 2023 draft, with Mannagh drafted at 26 after a standout VFL season for Werribee.

Mannagh proved to be a revelation in the back-half of last season and returned from a navicular injury on Friday night, tallying tallied 18 disposals, five tackles and a goal.

Edwards’ has been restricted to three VFL games due to injury since he arrived at the club but the athletic 206 centimetre ruckman showed promising signs during the pre-season.

“When we drafted Shaun, we knew he had the potential to make an immediate impact for us. Being a mature-aged draftee, Shaun has become a valuable teammate on and off the field, offering both support to our emerging group of while also having an impact and complementing our senior group of players,” Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie said.

“Mitch has shown great potential and while he’s faced a few injury setbacks, he is a long-term, developing prospect and we look forward to seeing what he can do over the next two seasons.”

Mannagh and Edwards signings come after Sam De Koning extended his stay until the end of 2027 last week.

Jeremy Cameron (2027), Brad Close (2028), Ollie Henry (2027) Shannon Neale (2028) and Toby Conway (2027) all recommitted to the club in March.
