One child has suffered burns to his foot and two others suffered smoke inhalation after a house fire in Torquay on Tuesday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said crews had arrived on scene in Bruce St about 2.24pm where the house was “well involved” in flames.
She said three patients, understood to be children, were being treated by paramedics, two for smoke inhalation and one for burns.
Four fire crews are at the scene, as well as a crew from Ergon Energy and police.
Police were evacuating surrounding homes due to the smoke hazard.
Harmony Irvin, who lives directly across the street from the home, said the backyard of the house had gone “up in flames”.
She was forced to evacuate her home as a result of the smoke billowing from the home opposite hers.
Ms Irvin said she did not personally know the neighbours other than to say hello, but she was still worried about them.
“I’ve never experienced a fire like this in general,” she said.
She said she had been alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke.
“My house was clouded with smoke, smoke was everywhere,” Ms Irvin said.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services area commander Matt Swainson said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire, or where it started on the property.
Seventeen firefighters fought the blaze, with crews from Torquay, Maryborough and Craignish responding to the triple-0 call.
“When crews arrived we had smoke crossing Bruce St, also crossing Boat Harbour Dr … crews quickly with the help of QPS evacuated neighbouring properties,” Mr Swainson said.
Due to the ferocity of the fire, it took fire crews 30 to 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.
“There has been ceiling and roof collapse on the premises,” he said.
Fire crews are investigating.
