Neighbours have given details about a noise complaint that may have sparked a nine-hour siege south of Brisbane overnight.
A 27-year-old man was taken into custody after surrendering to police on Thursday morning.
Police were initially called to reports of a disturbance at a property on Chambers Flat Rd at Logan Reserve just after midnight.
It’s believed neighbours had complained about loud music blaring from a stereo.
Believing the man may have been armed, police declared an emergency situation just after 6am but the man surrendered “peacefully” about 8.40am. Police said that no-one else was at the property.
South East Region acting inspector Jason Barrowcliffe said when called to the scene overnight, police had been “confronted by a male person in an agitated state”.
He said the man had “threatened” police during the lengthy siege and that a search warrant had been executed.
“We have got an onus to keep the community safe as well as the person inside the house,” he said.
A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said loud music could often be heard being blasted from the property for the past two months.
He said he “could hear yelling coming from the house” during the siege.
Another neighbour said the song New Americana by Halsey could be heard coming from the property from about 10pm.
“I felt like I was going insane,” she said.
The resident said she rang police after the man started yelling.
Police confirmed the man was known to them because of ongoing mental health issues.
He was taken to Logan Hospital to be monitored following the siege. It is expected he will be charged once released, after undergoing a mental health examination.
It is understood he has been going through a serious relationship breakdown over the last couple of months, which has contributed to his poor mental health.
Police attended the same property at the beginning of the month for a similar mental health incident.
