The first weekend of the school holidays has been marred by the death of a teenage boy, who died after jumping from a bridge at Hastings Point, just south of the Queensland border.
Emergency services were called to Tweed Coast Rd about 4.20pm on Saturday where a 17-year-old boy had jumped from a bridge into the water and failed to resurface.
Police pulled the boy’s from the water shortly after arriving on scene but sadly ambulance crews were unable to revive him.
Police are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
