A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after an alleged stabbing in Brisbane’s CBD.
Emergency services were called to Adelaide St about 3am on Friday where they found a man with wounds to his leg and arm after an alleged assault.
The 29-year-old man was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a
potentially life-threatening condition.
Police have charged two men - Kitione James Arthur-Morgan and Izaiah Paparoa-Romia - over the incident at the Meriton Suites.
Arthur-Morgan, 25, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday where his lawyer applied for bail and stated he would be contesting the charges.
Police prosecutor Val Crossley opposed his release saying he was on bail when he allegedly committed the offences.
“The current offences are of a very big concern to the prosecution ...the victim was stabbed and had deep laceration suffering arterial bleeding. So he had to be taken to the hospital for the surgery,” she said.
Legal Aid duty lawyer Isabelle Shoshani proposed releasing Arthur-Morgan, a disability pensioner who has just bought his own home in Beenleigh, on bail conditions including a curfew and a prohibition on contacting the alleged victim and co-accused.
“From the instructions provided he will be contesting these charges and from the facts provided it does appear that there may have been drug use by everyone involved, and there may be some inconsistencies in the versions (provided),” she said.
Magistrate Annette Hennessy refused bail citing a risk of further offending and adjourned the matter to April 7.
Paparoa-Romia, 25, did not appear in court or apply for bail with his matter adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.
Both men are charged with two counts each of armed robbery and one count of grievous bodily harm along with several drug offences.
