Woman critical, flown to Brisbane hospital following horror Susan River crash

A rescue helicopter has flown a woman to a Brisbane hospital after she suffered critical injuries in a crash near Hervey Bay, as police warn drivers to expect delays.

A woman has been flown to a Brisbane hospital after suffering critical injuries in a car crash at Susan River.

The crash happened at 9.45am on Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd when a car crashed into a tree.

A woman in her 50s was trapped in the vehicle when emergency services arrived but was freed and treated at the scene for leg, arm and head injuries.

Drivers are advised to avoid using Maryborough-Hervey Bay Rd, with traffic moving slowly in both directions.

It’s believed the woman’s car veered off the side of the road and collided with a tree.

The rescue aircraft was tasked to the scene around 10am, and the pilot was able to land on the road, which had been closed to traffic by Queensland Police Service officers.

The aeromedical team joined local Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics in treating the woman for multiple injuries, including to her arms and head.

Police recommended all drivers travelling between Hervey Bay and Maryborough to use Churchill Mine Rd.

The road has now reopened to traffic.
