Man killed as ute slams into power pole

A 58-year-old man who died in a car accident at Dalby overnight has been identified as Tara man Gavin Doherty.

A 58-year-old man, who died in a car accident at Dalby overnight, has been identified as Tara man Gavin Doherty.

Mr Doherty’s daughter Tash Porter told The Courier-Mail that the 58-year-old had “walked out on us years ago”.

“We searched for (dad) ,” she said.

Ms Porter said the family are still searching for answers after receiving a phone call that Mr Doherty had died in a car accident.

The driver of the car escaped relatively unscathed following the crash which occured late Sunday night.

Initial investigations indicate around 10.30pm a ute was headed west on the Warrego Highway when the vehicle hit a power pole.

Mr Doherty, who was a passenger in the ute, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.

The driver, a 26-year-old Chinchilla man was transported to the Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit are now investigating the crash.

The official death toll on Queensland roads hit 80 on Monday morning following the Maryborough crash that claimed three lives.

This time last year there were 93 fatalities recorded.
