A 27-year-old man has been injured during a violent home invasion in Brisbane’s west, with the offenders still on the run.

The incident happened at a unit in Frederick St, Taringa about 10pm on Tuesday when a group of people gained entry.

The resident was assaulted by one of the intruders.

He was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with facial injuries and abdominal wounds.

A resident of the unit complex told The Courier-Mail he heard loud noises, before witnessing three people running down the stairs.

“I heard some massive banging upstairs, lots of shouting, like a big commotion,” he said.

“I then came to check through the peep hole and I saw three people running down the stairs.

“So three youngsters, one of them took off running through the front door and another two came out the back.

“A bunch of cops and paramedics then rocked up.

“It wasn’t very pleasant, it was a bit scary, I didn’t know what was going on.”

Another resident of the unit complex told The Courier-Mail she was worried after hearing about the incident.

“I think it’s a worry that a violent crime could occur in anyone’s neighbourhood or apartment,” the woman said.

“People wish to feel safe wherever they live, so it is disturbing to know that there’s crime occurring around the neighbourhood.

“It is normally a quiet neighbourhood and a quiet unit block.”

The resident added that the building has security measures in place.

“It is a secure building, you either need to buzz in or use a key to get in,” she said.

“There is also signage to say to keep the door locked.

“There’s not a lot of traffic in here, you normally only see familiar people.”

A crime scene was declared, and investigations were under way.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink on 131 444.
