A man has been rescued after he was stuck in a tree near a cliff at Mount Tamborine from a hang gliding incident about 10.30am.

Queensland Ambulance Service Tamborine officer in Charge Sean Breeden said four QFES trucks and two police officers were on scene.

“About 10.30am this morning we were called to a paraglider who had managed to just after launch descend a little too quickly in a tree,” Mr Breeden said.

“The adult male was a fair way down in the escarpment about 7m up in a tree.

“He was complaining of significant back pain. So the Queensland Ambulance Service treated him for suspected back injury while the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services extricated him off that escarpment.”

He said the man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

“It was a difficult extrication, luckily his injuries gave us time so we were able to do it safely,” he said.

“The fire service had people on ropes and harnesses to get him from the tree and back up the escarpment.”

Emergency services have also undertaken a second operation with two people in need of rescue at the Glasshouse Mountains.

At 2.05pm Queensland Fire and Emergency were called to Mt Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast after reports two people were unable to descend the mountain.

A QFES spokeswoman said that three crews had been dispatched for the rescue however at 2.45pm were yet to reach the pair.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said a man injured his knee and was unable to make the rest of the journey.

It is believed the second person is uninjured and there was one ambulance crew on scene at 2.50pm.
