Motorists have faced major delays on one of the busiest stretches of the Bruce Highway after a car fire caused lanes to be cut off.
Emergency crews arrived at a stretch of the highway south of Roys Rd, near Coochin Creek at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast, after a fire started in a stationary car about 9.30am Sunday.
The incident caused delays of up to 40 minutes for southbound traffic, with only one lane in operation.
Heavy delays stretched back to Palmview but had eased slightly by 11.20am.
Police crews attended the scene to divert traffic and to determine the cause of the fire.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible and find an alternative route.
There were still minor delays at 1pm.
