A young girl is still fighting for life in hospital after suffering head injuries when she was hit by a vehicle in Hervey Bay on Saturday.

Police were called to Pialba-Burrum Heads Rd at Dundowran about 12.15am on Saturday, following reports of a traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian.

The occupants of a Toyota Hiace, an 82-year-old man and a 41-year-old man, were not physically injured.

A police spokesman said a 12-year-old girl had been seriously injured in the incident.

The road was closed to traffic as the forensic crash unit attended the scene.

The girl was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital in a critical condition before being flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital.

She remained in a critical condition in the Queensland Children's Hospital on Monday.

Police confirmed on Monday that investigations into the crash were ongoing.
