Several people are in hospital and the Bruce Highway was closed for several hours after a horror 24 hours on Queensland roads.
In the most recent incident, an infant was one of four people treated by paramedics after a serious traffic crash between a truck and a car south of Cairns about 11.15am on Sunday.
The crash left the Bruce Highway at Mirriwinni closed in both directions for several hours.
One woman had to be cut free from her vehicle. She was taken to hospital with facial injuries and lower leg pain.
A second woman was uninjured, while a man suffered pain in his back, leg and hip.
Two of the patients were taken by ambulance to Innisfail Hospital, while a third person was driven to Cairns Hospital in stable condition.
The fourth patient was flown to the Cairns Hospital in serious condition.
It was not yet clear if the baby was the patient flown to hospital.
The crash also impacted a rail line, which also had to be shut.
The smash was one of several serious, separate traffic crashes that happened overnight throughout Queensland, leaving 17 people in different hospitals with six of those seriously injured.
A man in his 40s is in serious condition after police said he was involved in crash on Staghorn Ave in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast overnight.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the man, driving a ute, hit a tree at 2.49am Sunday.
The Queensland Ambulance Service’s (QAS) High Acuity Response Unit drove the man to the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital in Woolloongabba in Brisbane.
The Forensic Crash Unit is currently investigating the incident.
On Saturday night, two people were seriously hurt after the car they were in crashed into a pole on Wynnum Rd, Norman Park, in Brisbane’s east at 11.19pm.
Paramedics, including the High Acuity Response unit, treated two patients at the scene before taking them to the PA Hospital in serious condition.
The smash, which happened near the intersection of Norman Crescent, saw one lane of Wynnum Rd closed until about 3.30am Sunday.
Earlier Saturday, six people were taken to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Park Ridge Road in Park Ridge about 6.05pm.
The patients were taken to the Logan Hospital, south of Brisbane, in stable conditions.
A QAS spokeswoman said one of the patients was complaining of chest pain, one man had an ankle injury, one woman sustained a neck injury while the other two individuals had no physical injuries.
The crashes followed an accident at a major car show event southwest of Brisbane that saw four people taken to hospital.
Emergency services were called to the Queensland Raceway at Willowbank in Ipswich shortly before 6pm on Saturday, where the Supercheap Auto-sponsored ‘Powercruise Day 1 Powerplay’ event was being held.
Powercruise Promotions confirmed a Holden car crashed into a wall during the event, injuring four people – two women aged 31 and 32, a 41-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl.
A spokesman for Powercruise Promotions said the car crashed due to a mechanical failure of the left rear wheel nuts that broke off causing the car to hit a concrete wall.
“As standard procedure any cars that hit walls all occupants are transported to hospital for observation even though all occupants walked away from the car,” they said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said there were “very vague” injury details.
Two people were taken to Ipswich Hospital in stable conditions and the other two to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in serious but stable conditions.
