Firefighters have rescued a man after a fire broke out in an abandoned building complex just metres from one that was gutted by a major fire in September.

Emergency services were called to a reported structure fire at Hubert St, Woolloongabba at 1.45am on Sunday.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing from one of the abandoned buildings in the complex.

According to a Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman, multiple firefighters entered the building.

“We had two teams of firefighters that entered the building and there was a small fire extinguished on the ground level at 2.20am,” the spokeswoman said.

“There was one person that was extricated from that building by firefighters.”

According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, paramedics assessed a man in his 40s at the scene of the structure fire.

The man was in a stable condition and declined hospitalisation.

It is understood that the abandoned building is in the same complex of buildings that was gutted by a major fire in late September.

The Lussh’s 100-year-old heritage Woolloongabba venue and two neighbouring buildings were destroyed by the September blaze.

Since then, The Lussh venue has been targeted by thieves, who broke into the building and stole items, while causing further damage to the building which was destroyed by the fire.
Investigators from the Queensland Fire Department determined that the September blaze ignited in an abandoned building that was being used for shelter by homeless people.
