Emergency services have kept busy across the Darling Downs region over the weekend, with multiple call-outs including a fatal crash.

A man has tragically lost his life after the truck he was driving collided with the trailer of another heavy vehicle, causing him to lose control and crash into a tree off the highway.

Paramedics were called to reports of a single vehicle rollover at Athol, west of Toowoomba just before 1am.

It’s understood the vehicle has rolled down an embankment near Athol School Rd, with a female patient suffering spinal and wrist injuries while a male patient suffered facial injuries.

Both patients were taken to Toowoomba Hospital for further treatment.

Across to the Southern Downs, Queensland Fire Department crews were called to Palmerin St in Warwick about 4.36am to reports of a rubbish fire.

A QFD spokeswoman said crews located the fire at the back of a commercial business, which they later discovered was a makeshift shelter that had caught fire.

Crews managed to extinguish the fire quickly and remained on scene for over an hour dampening down.

Queensland Police were also on scene.
