The Gold Coast is taking a step back in time to celebrate all things retro at Cooly Rocks On festival this week.

The award-winning festival will feature a display of more than 900 cars, including hot rods and custom vehicles, live music and the famous pin-up pageant.

Gold Coast local Alice Litzow, also known by her alias Lady Love Bug, is a pin-up finalist at this year’s festival.

This is the fourth time the 27-year-old has been a pin-up girl at the event.

“When I get all dressed up, I feel like a different woman and it’s all very exciting,” she said.

“It’s like another life.

“Getting dressed up for the festival is always so exciting.”

Ms Litzow was inspired to become a pin-up after going to Cooly Rocks On about four years ago.

“My boyfriend and I went to just look at the cars but I didn’t realise it was a whole rock ‘n’ roll festival with music and fashion,” she said.

“I saw some pin-up girls walk past me and they really inspired me.

“Especially being a pin-up at Cooly Rocks On, this is my fourth year in a row and I’ve made it a bit of a tradition now.”

Punters can relive the retro days at the five-day event which also hosts the preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Contest, with the winner heading straight to Elvis Week in Memphis in the US.

“Stepping into the festival, you really take a step back in time to witness all the music, fashion and cars,” Ms Litzow said.

“It’s an amazing atmosphere and the community really gets around it.”

The Cooly Rocks On Festival will be held until Sunday around Coolangatta Beach.
