A man has been arrested and another remains in a Gold Coast hospital with serious injuries after what police alleged was a “targeted” shooting on a quiet suburban street.
Emergency services were called to Woodlands Way in Parkwood just before 8pm on Thursday where a 21-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg and other injuries to his hand.
A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said: “The man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition. Initial inquiries indicate the (alleged) incident to be targeted.
“A 23-year-old man has been taken into custody. New South Wales Police arrested the man at a Banora address taking the man into custody around 11.30am.”
An application will be made in Tweed Heads Local Court on Saturday to have the man extradited to Queensland. Police haven’t said what led them to make the arrest or if any weapon has been located.
Packaging and medical supplies were left scattered along a footpath on Friday morning at the scene - alongside it was a water bottle splattered with blood.
The incident occurred several hundreds metres from a day care centre in a quiet semi-rural street with large properties.
