A woman has been transported to hospital after her vehicle crashed into a pillarbox and water main on in Woree on Sunday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed one crew responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a water main on Maconachie Street, Woree at 10.24am.

The driver, a woman in her 70s was transported to Cairns Hospital.

“She was transported in a stable condition to hospital. It looks like there was a lot of water on the road,” the spokeswoman said.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman confirmed two crews attended the scene.

“It looks like one of the green energy kiosks got run over. Everyone was out of the vehicle and police and Ergon were on scene,” the spokesman said.

An Ergon Energy spokesman confirmed the vehicle had crashed into a pillarbox before hitting a water main.

“The driver’s hit the pillar box and flattened it before hitting the water main. The only customer affected is the Cairns Regional Council depot. We’ve got crews working, but the power won’t be returned til about 5pm today,” the spokesman said.”

It follows a separate incident in Woree after a patient was transported to Cairns Hospital following a single vehicle crash into a pole on Links Drive at 7.15pm and another incident in Edmonton where a man in his 20s was transported to Cairns hospital with an arm injury after a vehicle and bike incident on Corinna Close at 9.18pm.
