Stabbing in Kuranda
A person has been taken to Cairns Hospital after an alleged stabbing incident at Greenhills Road, Kuranda.
Police were alerted to the incident at 7:45pm and attended the scene.
A police spokesman said two people were alleged to be involved in the incident which was described as a “street fight.”
Police have taken one person into custody.
Smoke hazard in Gordonvale and Mowbray
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued out a bushfire warning at 5:38pm for smoke currently affecting Gordonvale (The Pyramid) at this time.
A bushfire warning as of 4pm has also been issued to the Oak Beach, Mowbray Valley and Spring Creek and surrounding area.
There is currently no direct fire threat to property but there may be reduced air quality. Smoke may also reduce visibility and affect driving conditions.
Smoke hazard
Queensland Traffic has issued a smoke hazard warning for the Captain Cook Highway between Ellis Beach and Mowbray. Motorists are urged to drive with caution.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
Two-vehicle crash
Two stable patients were transported to Cairns Hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Balaclava Rd, Earlville at 5.55pm.
Trio taken to hospital after crash
Emergency services have attended a two-vehicle crash on the Tablelands.
At 4:43pm Queensland Ambulance Service got a call to attend the crash at the corner of Marks Lane and Gillies Range Road.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said three people were taken to Atherton Hospital in stable conditions.
Paramedics responded to Redlynch crash
Paramedics responded to reports of a single vehicle rollover on the Redlynch Connector Road and Larsen Road at 2.20pm today.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said initial reports suggested a car was stuck on the train line but it was later found in a nearby cane paddock.
Paramedics have assessed a male patient. He is in a stable condition and did not need to be taken to hospital. There were no other vehicles involved or injuries reported.
Silkwood train derailed
The Queensland Ambulance Service responded to a sugar cane train derailment at Silkwood this morning.
Paramedics were called to Spanos Road where they assessed a male patient for an arm injury.
He escaped serious injury and did not require further medical treatment.
Smoke visibility warning
Queensland Police have advised that smoke is impacting visibility on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas.
The smoke is the result of several fires in the area.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution and heed advice from emergency services crews on the ground.
Beer theft charges
An 18-year-old Innisfail man has been charged following investigations into the alleged burglary and theft of alcohol from an Edith St accommodation complex about 4.40am on Tuesday.
It will be alleged the man used a ladder to scale the fence of the complex before wandering through a number of rooms within the complex.
He then allegedly left with a stolen carton of beer.
Police were able to identify the alleged thief after reviewing CCTV footage.
He was found a short time later and charged with two counts of burglary and possession of drug utensils.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on October 5.
Malanda snake bite
A woman in her 80s was transported to Atherton Hospital in a stable condition following a reported snake bite to the arm at a home in Malanda at 11.53pm on Tuesday.
Strangulation charge
A 20-year-old Tully man will face a number of domestic violence-related charges following a disturbance at a Tully home about 10.30am on September 10.
It will be alleged the man strangled a 23-year-old woman known to him following a verbal argument.
The woman fled the residence and requested the assistance of a council worker who contacted police.
The woman was medically assessed for injuries to her neck.
It will be further alleged the man sent numerous threatening text messages to the woman following interaction with police.
Following investigations, the man was charged with unlawful choking in a domestic relationship, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and two counts each of breaching a bail conditions and contravening a domestic violence order.
He is scheduled to appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
PDR reopens after crash
The Peninsula Development Road has reopened after a crash between a ute and a semi trailer blocked the road near Laura this morning.
Police are still on scene at the crash, which occurred on the Little Laura Bridge at 9.08am.
A police spokesman said one vehicle had gone over the edge of the bridge into the river.
Both directions of the road were initially closed.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said crews were called to the scene but were not required.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15
Alleged wilful exposure at lagoon
A 29-year-old Currumbin man will face a charge of wilful exposure and stealing after allegedly going for a nude swim in the Esplanade Lagoon on Sunday night.
He allegedly swore at members of the public before stripping off all of his clothing and jumping in the public lagoon swimming pool at around 9.30pm.
Witnesses recorded the incident and followed the man providing his location to police.
It will be further alleged the man entered a Aplin St store and stole a bottle of soft drink.
Officers allegedly found the man with the item still in his hand.
He was arrested and later charged with wilful exposure, committing a public nuisance and stealing.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 29.
Attempted flee from police
A 39-year-old Yorkey’s Knob man has been charged after he allegedly attempted to run from Smithfield Police officers on Varley St at about 8pm on Sunday.
Police were speaking with the man in relation to another matter when he alleged violently struggled with officers after being informed that he was under arrest.
A search of the man after he was taken into custody allegedly uncovered flick knives, a set of knuckledusters and lock-picking tools.
He was charged with obstructing a police officer, unlawful possession of a category M weapon, possession of house-breaking implements and two counts of possession of a knife in a public place.
He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 29.
Wilful damage charges
A man and two children have been arrested after allegedly attempting to gain entry to a Mount Sheridan home and later throwing rocks at it about 1.30pm on Friday.
An 18-year-old White Rock man, an 11-year-old Edmonton boy and a 13-year-old White Rock boy were arrested over the alleged Treetop Dr incident.
A resident confronted the trio after they allegedly knocked on his door claiming they were lost.
The three boys allegedly fled from the house after being asked to leave.
Police were called after the alleged offenders returned a short time later and threw rocks at windows at the home.
All three were found by police after allegedly fleeing the residence.
It will be further alleged the boys were earlier involved in the theft of a BMX bike from Mount Sheridan and a second bike from an Anderson Rd accommodation complex along with the attempted burglary of a Treetop Dr residence.
The 18-year-old was charged with wilful damage, receiving tainted property and two counts of attempted burglary.
He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 6.
The 13-year-old boy and 11-year-old were charged with wilful damage, receiving tainted property, entering a premises and two counts of attempted burglary.
Both are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court this month.
Vehicle theft charges, Manoora
Officers from the Property Crime Squad have charged a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, both from Manoora, after they were allegedly spotted exiting a stolen car in Mulligan St on Saturday afternoon.
The Suzuki station wagon was reported stolen from a Digger St residence following an alleged burglary on September 10.
The vehicle was located abandoned and in a damaged condition by a second police crew a short time later at Mann St in Westcourt.
Both boys were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of tainted property, possession of house breaking implements and possession of dangerous drugs.
They are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court later this month.
Drink driving charge, Mareeba
A 36-year-old Mareeba man has been charged after he allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of .254 after his vehicle was intercepted on Earl St about 12.15pm on Saturday.
Police intercepted the man’s vehicle due to his driving behaviour.
He allegedly returned a positive roadside reading and was later charged following his release from the Mareeba Watchhouse.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on September 27 charged with driving a vehicle while under the influence of liquor and unlicensed driving.

The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting a mostly sunny day with no chance of rain for Cairns on Thursday. Light winds are predicted, south-easterly from 15 to 25km/h in the morning, then lighter in the evening.
Cairns is heading for a top temperature of 29C after an overnight minimum of 18C.

TRAFFIC
Archer River/ Mission River
Sealing of 10.1km of the Peninsula Developmental Road including drainage provisions at Archer River and Mission River is expected to continue to December 24 2021 with works ongoing Monday to Sunday 6am to 6pm and delays are expected.
Barron/Smithfield/Yorkeys Knob
Construction of the Smithfield Bypass project, which is to be completed in December 2021, could result in some delays during active construction hours. The project will construct a new 3.8km bypass between the McGregor Road roundabout and the Cairns Western Arterial Road and Captain Cook Highway roundabout as an alternative route to the Captain Cook Highway.
Bungalow
A speed reduction is in force on Mulgrave Road at Bungalow due to culvert damage near Brown Street.
Access across culvert in both directions along Mulgrave Road and Brown Street intersection is restricted to vehicles that comply with the general mass and concessional mass limits.
Cape Tribulation / Kimberley
Roadworks have been reported on Cape Tribulation Bloomfield Road at Cape Tribulation / Kimberley
Long delays are expected in both directions towards Wujal Wujal.
Deeral / Gordonvale
There will be roadworks on the Bruce Highway between Mulgrave River Bridge and Lewis Road until December 6.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Edmonton/Gordonvale
Roadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.
Edmonton / Gordonvale / Wrights Creek
Road works on Yarrabah Rd and the Bruce Highway due to the Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale are expected to cause motorist delays.
All lanes in both directions are affected and changed traffic conditions are in place.
Gordonvale
Temporary closure of Maher Road intersection with the Bruce Highway in both directions. From 7pm Monday to Sunday 7pm until December 31. Forms part of the works for the Bruce Highway, Cairns Southern Access Corridor.
Gordonvale
Culvert replacement works on the Gillies Range Road will be taking place until at least September 30. Lanes will be reduced as a result and motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Japoonvale
A 25 tonne load limit has been imposed on the Little Liverpool Creek Bridge between Torrisi Rd and Walter Lever Estate Rd. No delays are expected.
Kuranda
Barron River Bridge on the Kennedy Highway reduced to one lane. Restricted to vehicles that comply with general mass limits. Partial lane closures. Both directions affected and delays expected. Allow extra travel time.
Lake Barrine
Road widening works on the Gillies Range Rd at Lake Barrine are expected to continue to September 2021 and delays are to be expected.
Lake Eacham
Wrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route.
The next road inspection will take place on November 11, 2021.
Mareeba
Roadworks incorporating the upgrade of the pedestrian crossing to a signalised pedestrian crossing at Byrnes St, Mareeba are scheduled Sunday to Friday from 6pm to 6am and expected to last until September 26.
Kuranda / Smithfield
Survey work on the Kuranda Range Rd began on August 18 and will continue until September 27.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Mareeba / Walkamin
Road widening works on the Kennedy Highway near Walkamin will take place between May 20 2021 and December 24 2021.
All lanes in both directions are affected and motorists are advised delays expected during active hours. Allow extra travel time.’
Georgetown
Roadworks to widen the Gulf Developmental Road to the east of Georgetown will continue until October 30.
Proceed with caution
Stewart Creek Valley
Road hazard being soft shoulders on Douglas Creek Road at
Stewart Creek Valley has forced a 5 tonne GVM limit.
Heavy vehicles have been advised to use an alternative route.
Boogan / Mourilyan
Pavement widening and rehabilitation is underway on the Boogan Road at Mourilyan.
Works are expected to operate from Monday to Sunday, 6am to 6pm.
Delays are expected, motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
