The accident occurred around 9am this morning with police, ambulance and emergency crews called to the scene.

The road was reopened from 1pm however delays were still expected due to the volume of traffic.
The incident comes after another accident closed a northbound stretch of the Captain Cook Highway.

The car was being driven northbound on the Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Port Douglas around 5am by a male driver.
It is understood the car left the road and struck the embankment just past the Rex lookout near Wangetti causing the car to roll onto its side blocking the northbound lane.
The single male occupant was thankfully uninjured.
Two ambulance crews, a fire crew and one police crew attended the scene with police officers conducting traffic control while the incident was cleared.
