Regions across the Far North have been hit hard with showers and thunderstorms but experts say clear skies are ahead.
While Cairns experienced some modest rainfall this week, Kimba Wong meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology said the Tablelands and Cassowary Coast bore the brunt of the storms.
Parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands have been issued a severe thunderstorm warning.
“Tinaroo was the highest in the region with 72mm of rainfall (from Thursday night to 9am Friday),” she said.
“There are pretty big thunderstorms in Innisfail (on Friday), with Tully at 40mm and Mission Beach 39mm.”
Showers are clearing up as quickly as they came, according to Ms Wong, who said Far North will experience a nicer weekend.
“But finer conditions ahead for this weekend, there will be some lingering showers and might see isolated storm activity inland … in the ranges over the Tablelands.”
Next week will have greater showers starting in short, sharp bursts in the early days before worsening in the later days said Ms Wong.
“It’s likely to be an earlier wet season,” she said.
For Saturday, mostly sunny conditions with a slight chance of rain are on the cards for Mareeba with tops of temperatures of 33 and Innisfail with highs of 31.
Cairns will only have a slight chance of showers in the early morning before clearing up for a mostly sunny day with temperatures reaching 33 degrees on Saturday.
