A man has been charged following a multi-vehicle crash into a cane train in Innisfail on Wednesday.
Police have charged a 35-year-old Bayview Heights man with traffic offences after two vehicles crashed, ending up on a rail line with an oncoming cane train at Goondi Bend.
It will be alleged around 9.45am railway crossing lights were activated at the railway on the Bruce Highway and Hodgson Road.
An Isuzu FRR 600 truck allegedly crashed into a Toyota Hilux stopped at the lights, pushing it partially onto the railway line and pushing a Mazda 3 into a ditch.
The incoming train was able to stop and smashed into the Hilux before coming to rest in the middle of the road blocking both lanes.
The passenger of the Mazda 3, a 69-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
Earlier, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed crews assessed four people at the scene.
“We transported two patients with no significant injuries … to Innisfail hospital,” the spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed the highway had been temporarily blocked in both directions.
The 35-year-old male driver of the Isuzu truck provided a roadside breath test, before he was transported to Innisfail Station for further testing, and allegedly produced a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.063.
He was charged with two offences including one count each of drink driving and driving without due care and attention.
He is due to appear at the Innisfail Magistrates Court on 18 August.
